SNIDE REMARKS IN DEATH'S FACE or "why we shouldn't take anything seriously" by The Lizard King "Laughter is the best medicine" -Unknown Some people look at death in the face and laugh. Others just kind of just do a half grimace snorting kind of thing. And the majority just kind of makes snide remarks behind death's back. Whatever it is that you do, laughing at death is the idea. Laughing at virtually everything is the idea. Buckle your seat belts, this could take a while. It all starts out with an essay written by Andre Bergson called "Laughter", an analysis of what laughter is. Anyone who is going to sit around and figure this out for us is obviously rich enough to not have to ever do real work. The theory in this essay is that laughter is our defense against mortality. When you slip on a banana peel, there's friction and gravity, the possibility of death, and in between we laugh. So in short, laughing defends you from death. Pretty interesting concept. It gets better. Laughter is normally caused by the absence of seriousness. Therefore, never being serious is arguably a form laughter. If we laugh at everything, no matter how grim, no matter how serious, we are not being serious and, ipso facto, if we never take anything seriously, on the inside we are laughing. WHICH BRINGS US TO CONCLUDE that if we are never serious, we will always be laughing and in result, will never die (can't you picture me as one of those mad scientist guys with wild hair right about now). Laughter is another form of immortality. Now before the skeptics in the audience send me a nice little piece of reality, hear me out on this one. I know it's hard to believe this to be true, so consider this. If a person were to have faith in this theory, that their lack of seriousness and sobriety brings immortality, will throw off the mental restrains of their mortality. They will no longer fear the tribulations of death and life and become fearless. They will not hesitate to bungee jump off that bridge (sometimes regardless of the fact that they aren't attached to a bungee cord). They won't look back when they skydive miles high above the ground. They will live life to the fullest, weather or not it is in their better interest. They will do things that only an immortal would do. And they'll do it with a grin on their face because, to them, it's all a joke. I know that some people are going to think I'm insane for writing this. Some people will grunt at this idea. Some people will will be cynical towards this idea. And if this is the case, then maybe my writing this was useless. But maybe, some people will laugh at this idea. And if that's the case, then at least that's a laugh in the right direction.
