NO MORE FLYING MONKEYS or "why reality doesn't exist" "Reality is a perception. Perceptions change. Reality is fluid. So if by 'reality' you mean reliably tangible objects and immutable events, then there's no such thing." -Dean Koontz, Tick Tock Today, we're going to make another freak attempt to prove our slightly strange ideas, which in the end will probably be nowhere near the truth. However today's topic may shatter your perception of the world as we know it. And then again, it might just hurt your head. Today, we're going to prove that reality doesn't exist. It's true. It isn't there. It never has and most likely never will be. Let's start at the beginning. What is reality? Reality by definition, is a perception of what is real. However, this is a rather shaky definition because everyone percieves things differently. Perceptions change and differ from person to person. Therefore, reality exists only in the mind, and for some of us, not even there. However, this is only a technicality. A fault in the definition of the word "reality". To find out what is really there, one would have to dig deeper than just the definition of what reality is. Theoretically, everyone is in their own little world, perceiving what it is that they find to be real. So in theory, I might not exist, and this world might not exist, and you might be a highly delusional lunatic, banging his or her tiny cell, much to the amusement of the woman next door who has taken time away from getting the imaginary spiders off of her body in order to watch your predicament. However, let's not assume that, although it is a rather amusing prospect. Let's assume that society as a whole is contributing to this collective form of reality by putting into it what they believe. The only interference in this collective reality is madmen who deny some aspect of it, which is why they're locked up. But that's a different story altogether, and it's going to veer us off track. The point of this is, that although we may occasionally collectively perceive things, no two perceptions are the same and therefore (eureka!) a single reality construct CANNOT EXIST! Wasn't that fun? So, the question is, what can we do about this? Why should we be forced to be tied down by a single reality construct that, when looked at, is not really as fun as it could be if we had, for example, flying monkeys. The ANSWER to that particular question is a tough one. And on this journey of madness that you have obviously began considering if you've read this far down the page (if you have, congratulations, most people don't make it without a migraine) these are the answers we have to search for. That and why there aren't any flying monkeys. Damn it that annoys me...
